History
A Brief History of Select Seven Credit Union
Select Seven Credit Union was originally called Pet Dairy Employees Federal Credit Union and received a federal charter on March 15, 1949. The original charter covered the employees of Pet Dairy Products Company in several southeastern states.
In 1984, the credit union began expanding its charter to include other select employee groups. The first of these was Gordon’s Incorporated, (then Thomasville Furniture Industries, Inc., Johnson City Plant). Since then, the credit union has added many select employee groups in the Johnson City/Washington County area.
The legal name of the credit union was changed to Johnson City Federal Credit Union in 1992. Also, in 1992, property at 716 West Market Street was purchased. These facilities enabled the credit union to offer share draft accounts, check-cashing operations, safe deposit boxes, and drive-up windows. The credit union had become a full-service financial institution. In 1993, there was an important merger with Johnson City Employees Credit Union adding more than 1,500 potential members to the credit union. In 1993, the credit union purchased property at 333 East Main Street. These facilities were purchased to make the main office more convenient to our total membership.
The credit union has come a long way in its 72-year journey. In 2014 we expanded our charter to seven counties. Our charter now includes persons who live, work, worship, or attend school in, and businesses and other legal entities located in Washington, Carter, Unicoi, Hawkins, or Sullivan Counties in Tennessee, or Scott, Washington Counties in Virginia. This growth also included a name change and in 2015, the name of the credit union was changed to Select Seven Credit Union. We have remained among the largest credit unions in the area. We have pledged, however, to keep our service as personalized as it was when we financed our first auto loan in 1949!
Today we offer members a tremendous choice of financial products such as loans for almost every purpose, share certificates, Individual Retirement Accounts, extensive ATM networks, share draft accounts, VISA cards, and more.
